Sorry Guys, Crytek Says No Timesplitters 4
I’m shocked to say that this makes me kind of haz a sad, even if being so does require forgetting about Timesplitters: Future Perfect. Crytek has formally confirmed they are not working on Timesplitters 4. They announced this Ross-saddening news when talking to Computer and Videogames about new rumors to the contrary. First joking that they “spent all of the development budget on buying monkeys,” a spokesman said definitively, “No, it’s not in development.” Rats!
The Timesplitter series was developed by Free Radical Design; the company was founded by a large number of former Rare employees fleeing after Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were finished, and the second installment, Timesplitters 2 (I liked it best on Gamecube, believe it or not), was especially noted for capturing the feel of the two N64 classics. The third installment, Timesplitters: Future Perfect wasn’t as good, alas, and company fortunes flagged. Free Radical was gobbled up by Crytek in 2009, and since then a 4th game has been in limbo, waiting, so Crytk said when they took ownership of the franchise, for market demand to be demonstrated. It seems that Crytek remains unconvinced there is any such demand. So, damn.
