Splash Damage’s Next FPS is Free-to-Play Dirty Bomb on PC
FPS developer Splash Damage has a new title in the works, and it’s coming exclusively to PC, and it’ll be free.
Dirty Bomb, the game is called, and we know very little about it through official channels as yet. There’s a trailer embedded below, which gives a bit of a sense of what the game will be like, although not much.
Splash Damage’s last big project was Brink, the objective-based multiplayer heavy FPS that added things like free-running to make it a little more vertical and mobile. The game had some good ideas, but it was a struggle to like it, especially in the early days when lag made the game really irritating, and poor teammate AI made winning difficult rather than challenging.
Still, I liked Brink, so I’m wondering if any of that DNA has made its way into Dirty Bomb. From what I can see, it looks like something of the art style might be making a return (Brink features longish, deformed and slightly cartoony characters) in a few of the characters we see in the trailer, but it goes so fast that it’s really hard to say. Most of the emphasis is on explosions, so who knows just how the game will play.
Splash Damage’s work has been pretty solid in terms of the FPS genre, but then again, that genre is bloated and suffers from a great deal of look-alike experiences. Here’s hoping Dirty Bomb will bring something new to the table.
