Splinter Cell Wins and Final Fantasy Loses on April Sales Chart
April was not a good month for the games industry, because overall revenue was down 26% from April 2009. Consequently, a glance at the NPD’s US game retail sales chart won’t really get your blood pumping.
The winner in April was Splinter Cell Conviction with 486k copies sold on the Xbox 360, and Pokemon SoulSilver was a very distant second with 243k. The competition is closer from there, with New Super Mario Bros. Wii coming in at 200k, Pokemon HeartGold with 193k, God of War III with 180k and Wii Sports Resort with 179k.
Other notables in the list are Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on Xbox 360 at no. 7 with 166k and on PS3 at no. 15 with 100k; Super Street Fighter IV on PS3 at no. 10 with 143k and on 360 with 108k; GTA: Episodes from Liberty City on PS3 at no. 12 with no sales data. The big shocker was that Final Fantasy XIII was nowhere to be found, period, in the top 20 after coming in at no. 3 in March.
