Spokesman: No Grand Theft Auto 5 at Gamescom

A trailer for Europe’s monster video game convention Gamescom previously showed a snippet of Grand Theft Auto 5 among its many cuts and features, but according to a spokesman for the convention, that footage was added in error.

The takeaway is that Rockstar’s GTA sequel won’t be appearing at Gamescom in August.

Speaking with CVG, “Franko Fischer, communications manager of Gamescom’s organising body Koelnmesse, said ‘Rockstar Games is not scheduled and has never been scheduled to exhibit at Gamescom 2012′.

“He said that all GTA V footage has now been removed from the Gamescom trailer.

‘We apologise for any confusion this may have caused,’ he added.”

So there’s that. Our own Ross Lincoln believes that Rockstar is holding back on info on Grand Theft Auto 5, specifically regarding its release date window, but who knows. Most details have been kept pretty close to the chest at this point by the developer, and it seems no new ones will be leaking out from Germany this summer.
