Spore and Super Monkey Ball Coming to the iPhone

iphonespore1-1.jpgApple gave a presentation today where they announced a new application downloading service for the iPhone. Among the different apps announced though, a couple of game developers took the stage to discuss the new iPhone SDK which will allow for new games to be created for the device as well as ports. Namely, EA divulged a version of Spore is being prepared, and Sega displayed a port of Super Monkey Ball. The two companies stressed that these are not stripped-down mobile versions of the two titles, but are direct ports that have been given touch-screen controls; Super Monkey Ball was even enhanced graphically. To top it off, it only took a couple of weeks for them to prepare working demonstrations of the games in action. Apple also noted that other games are already in the works for their “Jesusphone,” and even showed off a quick 3D shooter that also only took two weeks to put together. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on when any of these new apps will be coming to the iPhone.

I’m sure those games will be battery-drainers like nothing else, but that’s still a pretty awesome feature. All I know is I have to go console my Blackberry now, who is sobbing quietly in the corner.

As far as I can tell from watching the whole video on apple, I think they have a very good change at succeding. And the iFund of $100,000,000 for upcoming developers is unbelivable. I’ve never really been a huge Mac fan but I am going to be getting an iPhone in the next couple of months and I can’t hardly wait.

I am a graphic designer at a newspaper and our sales team uses salesforce that was demonstrated in the video. We’re not a huge town but I wouldn’t be supprised if they start carrying iPhone as well.
