Square Enix To Supposedly Launch Giant Unreal-Powered RPG In February

Andriasang is making public an unconfirmed report they’ve received that Square Enix plans to debut their next big project, a large RPG running the Unreal engine, in the next issue of Famitsu. The new title will apparently produced by Ryutaro Ichimura, previously known for bringing Square Enix’s Dragon Quest series to Nintendo DS, and appears to be intended for an overseas audience (read: Asia, rather than North America and Europe). These facts lead me to wildly speculate that the RPG will be a JRPG and also, a Wii exclusive*. I kid, I kid. It’s possible they brought in the guy who took Dragon Quest to Nintendo for reasons other than to make a Nintendo series, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up being a launch title for Wii U.

Well, actually I would. Since a ‘huge’ Unreal-based RPG from Square Enix sounds awesome, I fully expect that Nintendo would have zero interest in making sure it’s available on Wii U. Why would they want to launch their next dust collector with a reason for people to buy it, right? So expect this to be on Xbox and PS3 and PC, and expect Wii U to launch with Wii U Sports and yet another goddamned Nintendogs game. Also, probably something involving Wario.

Meanwhile, what do you think? Let us know in comments.

Wait, so… the Last Remnant again, or a different style of game? Not that I’d complain about another solid game like that.
