Square Enix Trademarks What Could Be a New Deus Ex Game
Sometimes we find out about new games from press releases. Sometimes they’re announced at conventions. Other times, though, we find out about new games because some eagle-eyed watcher spots a trademark registration, a Steam listing, or some other under-the-radar thing. That’s where this morning’s news comes from.
Over on NeoGAF, member miladesn has posted a screencap of what appears to be a pending trademark registration by Square Enix. The registration lists “DEUS EX: HUMAN DEFIANCE” as the registered name. Here’s the image:
Now, we obviously can’t tell what this represents from the trademark listing, and Square Enix isn’t talking. All they would say was that, “Square Enix does not comment on rumor and speculation.” Based on what we know, here are a few possibilities:
- Sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution – This is my pick, as it’s about time for Square to show off their next big project now that Tomb Raider is about to launch.
- Wii U port / Wii U exclusive – Don’t see a port as necessitating a name change, and the odds of a new Deus Ex game being Wii U exclusive are slim to none.
- Deus Ex movie – Because why the hell not?
I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this soon, as we’re about to enter convention season. If Square isn’t talking about it at PAX East, you can expect to hear something from E3. In the meantime, tell us what you think it represents!
