Square Sending Final Fantasy III to iPhone

Need a new outlet for your fix, Final Fantasy fans? Add your iPhone to the list of platforms playing really old J-RPGs, then, because Square Enix is porting Final Fantasy III to Apple’s iOS platform next month, according to the company’s website.

Unfortunately, that’s all we know about it — we have no idea when it’ll be out, what it’ll cost or what it will look like. But Square’s re-release of Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS in 2006 (the first time the title had made it to the U.S.) featured some updated visuals and pre-rendered cutscenes, and it wouldn’t be to surprising to find out the iPhone port is basically that game, repackaged.

Either way, Square Enix has got some quality iOS titles out there already — including its RPG Chaos Rings — and you can expect Final Fantasy III will probably hit the same marks in terms of presentation.
