Star Citizen Blows Past $2M Donated via Crowd Funding

Sandbox space sim Star Citizen has been successfully crowd funded, with over $2M in donations amassed on Kickstarter and via the official website.

With 24 days left to go on Kickstarter, stretch goals are going to come into play. Developer Chris Roberts has stated that additional funding will go toward more in-game rewards for backers, as well as a richer and more varied game experience for all. Roberts wrote:

“The first goal is $750,000 on Kickstarter, at which point every backer will get a Class I Repair Bot when they start the game. [...] The more of these [stretch goals] we can hit, the richer and more varied the game I can deliver.”

Are you excited about this return to the classic PC space sim?

They have said that you can upgrade your pledge later, which I will do as soon as I get paid and the feature becomes available on their site.

Going for the digital add ins as well, as I put in my contribution, will keep adding to it, wish Mechwarrior online would have done a similar program

I don’t actually like Space sims, but I’m with this team in spirit :D . Good on ‘em :D

YEAH! I’m stoked that they got the necessary starter funds, and am looking forward to the return of the genre with both this game and 0x10c
:) :)

Having played games like Freelancer for hours without end, I’ve sure as hell pledged for this game (on both platforms). Sadly it’s not so easy to keep track of the overall progress until some backer created a little page for that:

In any case: this are going to be long two years. ;-) (and if I add the Chris Roberts delay to that… well)

@LightMonk: Any reason why you didn’t post the link to the official stretch goals: ? Though GameFront could have done that in the article, after quoting from the project updated, that announced the comprehensive stretch goal list…
