Star Trek Online Reveals Future's Past: Star Dates 2379-2380

Cryptic has updated the Star Trek Online website with the first article in a new series which will update Star Trek history from Nemesis to 2409, the current date for the Star Trek Online MMO. These developer diaries should go a long way towards answering the inevitable questions Trekkers have about their favorite characters from Star Trek and its spin offs, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager.

Most of the information in the history of 2379-2380 concerns The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine storylines starting with the demise of Romulan Praetor Shinzon. These histories are going to become canon as Paramount has abandoned the future timeline in favor of the relaunch and the rumored altered history of the original series. However as this is Hollywood we’re talking about, and there’s no guarantee that things won’t change in the future at the whim of the screen writers.

Just a note, a “cannon” is used to shoot people, a “canon” is a volume of information. Also, Paramount hasn’t abandoned the future beyond Nemesis, they are simply trying to tell a story, they are also not changing canon by doing so. It is likely that Paramount/CBS will continue stories past Nemesis and blow this history out of the water, as what appears on screen is canon, and what is in other media, may become canon, due to on-screen reference, but it is not guaranteed.
