Star Wars: Battlefront Won’t be a Re-Skinned Battlefield

Contrary to popular expectations, DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront will not be Battlefront 3. Instead, it will be the studio’s own take on the franchise.

“This is DICE’s interpretation of what Battlefront should be. That’s the best description you can have,” said EA Games chief Patrick Soderlund in an interview with Eurogamer.

“There are absolutely things in the previous Battlefront games that you’ll recognize and remember, but DICE wants to put its own flavor on it. That’s the only way we can do it.

“Hence it’s called Star Wars: Battlefront, without a 3 at the end. We want to say it’s something new. But again, it’s going to be very Star Wars and very cool.”

In addition to being their own take on the series, DICE’s Patrick Bach promised that the game would not simply be a re-skinned Battlefield.

“We don’t want Star Wars plus Battlefield, because that would be boring, right?”

Star Wars: Battlefront is expected for release on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sometime next year.

If it comes out later than next year I’ll believe it. If not, they just took the work Lucasarts had done on it and spent the rest of the time polishing off what had already been done.

My biggest fear for this game is that it may end up as Battlefield: Star Wars Edition.

Battlefield and Battlefront are similar, sure, but each had a distinct feeling. I don’t want Battlefront to *feel* like Battlefield.
