Starbreeze Studios Is Working On A Payday-Style Co-Op Space Shooter

Starbreeze Studios, the publisher behind Payday 2 and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, is working on a co-op shooter based in outer space.

The revelation comes from the latest Starbreeze report, seen here. Page 26 has some basic details on Storm, and the unedited Google translation of that page is as follows:

“Starbreeze runs a game project with the working title Storm. The game is based on a proprietary concept and based on the technology behind Payday games. Storm can closest summarized as “Payday in space.” is a co-op shooter in a sci-fi environment that takes advantage of the design we have created in Payday games.”

I’m not sure that Starbreeze Storm (our working title until an official announcement) is going to be bank robbing in space, but a co-op shooter in space…maybe with some jet packs, aliens, and pulse rifles? Sign me up.

We certainly enjoyed our time with Payday 2, with My Main Man Mike Sharkey calling it a “robust package,” even with some bugs and glitches at release. Dropping a space-based shooter on the same basic engine and design framework sounds promising, so long as they nail the vertical, no gravity aspect of space combat.

There’s already a team-based game that focuses on theft and murder in space. Its called Eve Online.
