Starbreeze Working on Co-Op Sci-Fi FPS, Storm

Starbreeze revealed a new game under development, Storm, with a single image and a brief description: “Co-op Sci Fi FPS. It is our future.”

Storm appeared alongside Payday 2 and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons as a title currently in development, with an image depicting the industrial grunge we’ve come to associate with the future.

Could this possibly be Cold Mercury, the free-to-play shooter Starbreeze revealed last year that was since believed to be canceled or significantly altered?

Syndicate wasn’t well-received by fans, and while CEO and President of Starbreeze Studios Mikael Nermark believes that expectations of the game were too high, the studio needs to restore our faith in its FPS abilities.

Syndicate failed because Starbreeze didn’t do what Firaxis did: a remake that at least tried to be true to it’s roots. For all the problems in XCOM: EU I really enjoyed it. While Syndicate was “ok” it didn’t really needed to be called “Syndicate”.

Were Syndicate a RTS or even a ARPG, it might’ve worked. It might’ve also flopped harder than it did, but I can at least respect a developer that takes risks even when they don’t pay off, instead of adding to the FPS flood that is out there.
