Starcraft 2 Update Adds New Interface, Multiplayer Functionality
Blizzard has announced plans to deploy a new patch for Starcraft 2 ahead of the release of the game’s Heart of the Swarm expansion pack. The patch updates the existing game to version 2.0.4, and will be deployed shortly. It is expected to implement numerous changes to prepare the multiplayer portion of the game for the expansion.
The patch adds a completely new interface with new menu screens, added functionality for clans and groups in-game, new replay features, improvements to the editor, and simpler matchmaking options. New modes, including Training Mode and Unranked Play are being added to the game for newbie players to familiarize themselves with Starcraft 2′s multiplayer.
Additionally, players on a local network will be able to connect to each other through a new Players Near You matchmaking option.
The new features will only become available after the release of Heart of the Swarm on March 12, 2013. It’ll be out for the PC and Mac. Players will be required to own existing copies of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty. The game takes off after the events of the first chapter in Starcraft 2, and players will take on the role of Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades, as she commands the race of Zerg in an all new single-player campaign.
