Starcraft II – Information and Screens

Starcraft II

StarCraft II continues the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg sagas. These three distinct and powerful races will clash once again in the fast-paced RTS sequel to the original, StarCraft. Legions of veteran, upgraded, and brand-new unit types will do battle across the galaxy, as each faction struggles for survival.

Featuring a unique single-player campaign that picks up where StarCraft: Brood War left off, StarCraft II presents a cast of new heroes and familiar faces in an edgy sci-fi story filled with adventure and intrigue. In addition, Blizzard will again offer online play through Battle.net, the company’s gaming service, with several enhancements and new features.

FEATURES:

  • Fast-paced, hard-hitting, tightly balanced competitive real-time strategy gameplay that recaptures and improves on the magic of the original game
  • Three completely distinct races: Protoss, Terran, and Zerg
  • New units and gameplay mechanics further distinguish each race
  • Groundbreaking single-player “story-mode” campaign
  • Vibrant new 3D-graphics engine with support for dazzling visual effects and massive unit and army sizes
  • Full multiplayer support, with new competitive features and matchmaking utilities available through Battle.net
  • Full map-making and scripting tools to give players incredible freedom in customizing and personalizing their gameplay experience

When will Starcraft II be available you say? Well, according to Blizzard: “At this point, it’s too early to provide an initial estimate on the release date. As with all Blizzard games, we will take as much time as needed to ensure the game is as fun, balanced, and polished as possible.” EB Games is now taking pre-orders, and has a shipping date of October 1, 2008 listed, but stay tuned and we will give you more updates when they are announced.

This should be fun. It looks like all the races will be much stronger than the others, judging by the protoss and terran units so far released.

It’s also good to see that the terran are also getting more “ghost” units, with the reaper, but I’m not so sure the wraith will make a return, with the viking, and the goliath almost certainly will not looking at the design. Reapers almost look like a firebat replacement. Maybe there will be no terran melee, this time around.

There seems to be a lot that has to be answered yet for every race, mostly zerg, though. I’m really looking forward to this.

When I first heard the annoucement a few months back, I could hardly believe it.

Yea, the toss own all…the toss who are the single most overpowered unit in the game…

What, a cannon that attacks both GROUND AND AIR?! oh, and it can identify invisibles too? No way! …AND THERE’S A UNIT THAT CAN CLOAK ANYTHING? AND YOU CAN CONTROL ALL THREE RACES??!!?!?!111ONE

From what Bliz has said so far, it looks bad for the toss on a lot of fronts.

Arb is gone, replaced by the phase prisim, it seems, with its ability to, basicly, recall by setting up an area of psi. The dark archon seems to be gone, replaced with the twilight archon (or merged with the archon, if you prefer), which doesn’t seem to have mind control.

Defenses are never that special, and the toss are no exception. I prefer bunkers, honestly.

It looks like the ghost may actually get mind control, by the way!

We’ll have to see how it all goes down, but my money is on the terran looking mighty overpowered before the zerg units or the rest of the protoss are told.

Of course, Bliz does a wonderful job of balance. I have no doubt they will do it again.

how often do you hear ‘ground breaking single player campaign’ when really it’s just about average…
From what I’ve seen, it looks like a revamped WC3 engine, I can’t really speculate as to whether or not it will be fun, until of course it comes out. There’s a lot of features but as seen with AOE3, having great graphics, interesting gameplay mechanics, and the possibility of having a great story line, doesn’t mean the game will be fun. AOE3 was boring.
