State on StarCraft: State to Compete in the GSL

State on StarCraft is a weekly column on Game Front by Ryan “State” Visbeck, a pro StarCraft 2 player. Each week State brings you his unique perspective on all things StarCraft, including tips, tricks and stories from the front line of competitive play.

NOTE: “State” is officially sponsored by Game Front.

Last year, I trained at the StarTale house in Korea to prepare for the 2012 Battle.net World Championship. In just three months I was playing the best StarCraft of my life. When I returned to pro-gaming in March, I knew that returning to Korea was a necessary first step towards becoming the best that I can be.

On November 30th, I arrive to train at the fOu house in Korea.

Team fOu—or For Our Utopia—is a one of the best teams in the world. Their StarCraft 2 division has won championships in America, Europe and Korea. Earlier this month, their newly formed DotA 2 team—which my friend Will “Blitz” Lee is now a part of—placed 2nd in the first premier DotA 2 tournament in Korea.

fOu has an amazing roster. Their Protoss players—Seed, Hurricane and Tassadar—are among the best in the world, and I’m excited to learn from them just as I learned from PartinG when I stayed with team StarTale.

Training at the fOu house means more than just improving my gameplay. Once I’ve settled in, I’ll begin my new streaming schedule for December. This will include at least four full days of streaming per week and new replay packs after each and every stream. I’ll continue to release replay packs with my articles, and those packs will include only the week’s best games. This week’s pack includes a match against Jaedong.

Finally, I’m officially changing my region to WCS Korea. It’s been my dream to compete in the GSL since I began my career as a pro-gamer, and I’m confident that training with fOu will give me the edge I need to qualify.

I’ve said it a hundred times before, but I’m really, really excited about this new opportunity. You can follow me on Twitter to stay updated, and I’ll begin streaming again in early December on Twitch.TV. Let me know what you’d like to see from me while I’m in Korea!
