Steam Greenlight Will Not Last Forever, Gabe Says

Despite Steam Dev Days not being open to press, we get all the details anyway thanks to folks livetweeting so much of it. One item that came out that way was that Steam is up to 75 million registered users. Another is that Valve doesn’t see Steam Greenlight as a tool it will want to use forever.

“Our goal is to make Greenlight go away,” said Gabe Newell, via VentureBeat. “Not because it’s not useful, but because we’re evolving.”

Some context is provided in this tweet from Tomas Rawlings of Aurock Digital.

Essentially, they view Greenlight as a stopgap to use for now while they seek a better solution. That’s not surprising; Greenlight can be quite unwieldy.
