Steam Hit 6 Million Concurrent Users Over The Weekend

While too many people in the real world probably disregarded our first tip for surviving Black Friday – don’t ruin the thanksgivings of overworked retail staff by going out to shop on the actual holiday – it looks like gamers by and large did the right thing and stayed in this thanksgiving. They even went one better, pretty much doing nothing but stay in, if Steam’s user numbers are any indication.

Valve has published the stats for the holiday weekend, and they’re huge. The whole weekend saw big numbers, but yesterday around 11 AM Pacific, more than 6 million people were logged on at the same time. That’s no doubt due to Steam’s amazing Thanksgiving weekend discounts, but still a huge milestone. I still believe the all-digital future is at best a mirage, but this is definitely proof that people like online gaming, and that they like doing it on PC.

FWIW, I was on all weekend thanks to a close friend of mine gifting me several games. What about you? Let us know how you spent the weekend in comments.

Thanks, GameSpot.

I’ve actually did shopping last friday for some real things… Early morning, just before the real rush… ;-)

As for the virtual shopping, I purchased these… All on Steam…
- Borderland 2 (no DLCs)…
- Dirt Showdown…
- DOOM 3 BFG…
- DLC for Civ 5 – Gods & Kings…
- Max Payne 3…
- All Orcs must Die! 2 DLCs…
- Star Wars Battlefront (watched both trilogies recently ;-) )…
- To the Moon…

Having to pay full price, I wouldn’t have less than half these titles…
And most of them, I wouldn’t have purchased at all (Dirt or Doom 3, for example)…

All in all, a typical week-long Steam sale for me…

bought Star Wars Jedi Knight pack, Assassin’s Creed III (Not on discount, but heck…) and TES: Skyrim with all DLCs. There’s no thanksgiving holiday here, but stayed in this weekend nonetheless XD

I “only” bought 20 games this time, mostly because my wishlist was getting too long. I prefer to continue lying to myself that I’ll actually have enough time to finish all the games on my already extensive backlog.

@Patches
As a Star Wars fan I feel I have to apologize for the quality of the “new trilogy.” Please don’t judge the rest of the Star Wars mythos based on Episodes I – III.
