Steam Offers AMD Driver Update Service

Games, Demos, Videos, Screens. These are the sort of content we’ve come to expect from Steam’s digital delivery service. As of today we can add some device drivers tot hat catalog of goods as the tool now has AMD video card drivers available on its service for members.

Considering that Valve has keen interest in the hardware people are using to play the games it sells, well this new addition leaves me asking “What took so long?”

AMD and competitor Nvidia continue to leapfrog each other technology-wise but the ease of updating paired with the need to constantly install new video drivers as new games release, that challenge often means players are getting bad performance thanks to un-optimized drivers.

This integration means that Steam will automatically detect your AMD/ATI driver version if you have one of the company’s video cards, and update it. How long will it be until other device makers get on board? Logitech? Nvidia? MadCatz?

This is pretty much only a good thing.
