Steam Says Batman: Arkham City Hits PC on Nov. 22 [UPDATED}

[UPDATE] Warner Bros. just sent out a press release confirming the new Nov. 22 PC release date. We’re still waiting for an answer as to what the delay entails and why PC players are being made to wait more than a month from the console release, however. Australia gets the game on Nov. 23, France and Benelux on Nov. 24, and the rest of Europe on Nov. 25.

Batman: Arkham City has been available on consoles for two weeks now, but as far as the game’s PC release was concerned, for some unknown reason, we’ve been waiting.

Now, it seems we may be waiting a little longer. According to the unofficial reckoning of Steam, the game will unlock on Nov. 22. Please note that that’s an additional two weeks from today and better than a month from the console release on Oct. 18.

Also worth noting — this is a weeklong delay from the last date we got for Arkham City, which was Nov. 15. And we’re not sure why the game was delayed in the first place.

We’ve reached out to Rocksteady to find out if Steam’s date is the accurate one, and also to ask “what gives?” in the delay department in the first place. We’ll update this story as we learn more.

This is what steam says for my UK pre-order. I hope its a joke from joker to basically make us go mad like he is lol

If its true, WarnerBros should give us FREE DLC to compensate for this unfair treatment. Id rather it come out with a few bugs and get a patch in a day or two.

“Available: 18 November 2011
This game will unlock in approximately 1 week, 2 days and 21 hours”

Really?

They delay games like this to drum up console sales; granted this is my opinion, but there are a lot of people with PCs and Consoles who’ll get it on the console JUST so they don’t have to wait longer.

@LTenhet

Lots of people like to make that argument, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Why would Rocksteady and Warner Bros. want to delay the PC release to increase console sales if they make money either way — and probably make MORE money with PC releases because they don’t have to pay the licensing fees they do to put games on consoles?

This comment just prompted a bit of an internal discussion, in our Ron Whitaker speculated that perhaps incidents of DLC sales are higher on consoles than PCs. That would make sense, but barring that assumption, I fail to see the upside for a publisher to basically ‘trick’ PC gamers into buying on consoles. What do you guys think?

I think the thought is that PC games are pirated more often than Console games, so they should release the PC version after most of the console buyers have got their copy. Honestly, this seems realistic to me, and I can wait a bit anyway. Heck, I still haven’t finished the first game and with Skyrim and Saints Row the Third coming out, I don’t think I’ll get around to getting Arkham City ’til it’s on sale next year. So no big.

…..have none of you done any research at all about this? Its delayed on PC because they are making sure the DX11 features work properly. Arkham City utilizes DX11 greatly to provide a experience the is unmatched by consoles which cant render DX11. They are just taking more time to make sure this newer technology works without issue.

@Batman

Have you seen some kind of official statement from anyone saying that optimization for DX11 is the reason for the delay? Because the link you posted just shows screens of the game running on DX11. It doesn’t say anything about a reason for the delay. Looks to me like you’re jumping to a conclusion to justify the delay.

arg at least an update on steam would have been respectful to the consumers not this random waiting forever crap

these delays are absolutely stupid…if this is about money or piracy, it doesn’t matter how early or how late the game will be released because the sales will be the same….or if it’s because of some last tweaks on finishing the game, c’mon now u had years of time for doing that don’t tell me the pc version was made in the last two months or something….and if this is because they want to make pc users buy consoles to play it early it’s just ridiculous, how about not making any pc games at all then…it’s just common sense that a game should be released right after it’s been made not months or years later lol

I’ve still got “Available: 18 November 2011
This game will unlock in approximately 9 hours”

I have seen some sites saying that STEAM customers will get it today while retail (uk) and other countries will get it next week. Bit weird but the countdown had better be CORRECT. Otherwise they should have increased the countdown timer when the delay was first issued. Otherwise what’s the fookin point of having the count down timer?

from 18 november and now to 25, almost two months delay…jesus christ is this game ever gonna be released this year or what?…i don’t have a console and i don’t intend to buy one so this delaying bull is really getting on my nerves…just for this i’m gonna play the pirated version and not spend any money on buying it.

Actually I just saw the PC version sitting on a shelf at a Target. So.. yeah.. not sure why they are saying they are having “issues”… since the damn thing is out on shelves.
