Steam Summer Sale Begins on June 16 (Rumor)

Paysafecard, a European company that deals with online prepaid systems, seems to have let slip that the Steam Summer Sale is only a week away.

According to their website, the sale begins on June 19th and runs to June 30th this year. If the rumor is true, the date rolls in a few weeks earlier than it did last year on July 11 to July 22. A possible reason that Paysafecard let this information slip is that it’s currently running a competition with the Steam prepaid cards by giving away 250 prepaid card pins worth €10 ($13.50) each to the lucky winners. Given it’s in Euros, I’m assuming it’s just for our fellow European gamers, though. However, any Steam user will tell you that $13 in a Steam sale is easily a dozen new games to add to your backlog.

Given that Valve has not released any information themselves about the date, it’s still speculation if the date is real or not.

If the Steam sale does indeed start next week, get your wallets ready, it’s going to get ugly.

I hope this is the year where the free to play microtransaction games get in on these sales, and them amazon get in on the competition. I would love to see discounts on games like marvel heroes, planetside 2, neverwinter, smite, etc.
