Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor Returns as Kinect Exclusive
Capcom’s Steel Battalion experiment still brings back interesting memories among gamers wealthy enough to have picked up the $300 Original Xbox game. Steel Battalion was a giant Mecha game more closely related to PC classics like Mechwarrior 2 than console mecha games like Armored Core. what made the game stand out, aside from the simulation approach, was the amazing custom controller the game required.
While Capcom always said it had plans for the Steel Battalion series, it comes as a shock to see the company go from a completely sim-like hardware game to a waggle and stomp Kinect title. The first details on the new game are flittering out of Tokyo at this years TGS and here’s what we know so far:
Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor is set in a pseudo future where humanity has lost computer technology and views for dominion in constant wars. Somehow losing technology does not mean losing the ability to create giant walking tanks to subjugate your foes. From Software is back on board to handle development for the title that has a 2011 release window.
Very little was revealed about how the game would control and the initial trailer and screens show off more of the setting than the gameplay at this point. It’s unclear as well to what extent the game will use the Kinect, since it is presumed the game will not be controller-less.
