Battle System Tips: Throws

Seeing as how there’s quite a few expansive elements to the battle system, let’s take a look at how to utilize these elements, starting, of course with the throws. Okay, so perhaps my background in Judo has made me a bit bias. Oh well. Gotta start somewhere!

  1. How to use it: You can execute a throw by pressing the Left Punch and Left Kick button at the same time. Experiment with pressing the back button while you throw and you’ll learn how to change your throws up a bit.
  2. When to use it: A great time to use a throw is when your opponent is making defensive maneuvers. When they are blocking, it is absolutely the best. What I typically like to do against opponents is lull them to sleep by throwing a series of quick hits. This gets them into the habit of blocking. Once you feel like they’re used to that pattern, start throwing some throws in there (PUN INTENDED!). This will keep your opponent on their toes and will make you much less predictable.
  3. How to defend it: The best way to avoid being thrown is to keep moving around and not to block in one spot for too long. If you are grabbed, you can get out of a throw by executing the same keys as if you were throwing: Left Punch and Left Kick.
