Switchball and Word Puzzler on Xbox Live Arcade This Week

A word search game seems about as casual as you can possibly go with a videogame, so Microsoft will be releasing Word Puzzler this week on XBLA alongside Switchball, a sort of combo puzzle-platformer game. Both games will be available on Wednesday.

Word Puzzler seems like a great idea to appeal to the really casual end of the spectrum. But 800 Microsoft Points ($10) seems a bit steep for what amounts to a pen and paper game, even if it does include multiplayer support. If you do choose to buy it, you’ll be treated with Xbox Live Vision camera support. We’ll have to see on Wednesday whether the price is the game’s failing point.

Switchball sounds intriguing; at first glance, it looks like a new Marble Blast game, but it’s actually very focused on physics and puzzles, which certainly could be fun. The game has 30 single-player levels set in five different environments, each of which has excitingly original names like “Skyworld,” “Iceworld,” and “Cloudworld.” Seriously. Switchball costs 800 Microsoft Points.
