SWTOR Announces Rise of the Hutt Cartel Expansion

Today Bioware unveiled the first Star Wars: The Old Republic expansion dubbed Rise of the Hutt Cartel due in Spring 2013. The digital download only expansion is now available as a pre-order. Non-subscribers will pay $20 while regular subscribers get it for $10. You can’t use your Cartel Coins to purchase it, so nice try, cowboy. But if you buy by January 7, you’ll get early access 5 days before the official launch.

The expansion comes with 5 more levels, the dual-faction planet Makeb, and more of SWTOR’s favorite sell point, fully voiced cinematic storytelling. Unfortunately, that’s all we know right now. It seems strange to announce an expansion with so little information or a trailer to generate excitement. With the limited details released, this is only going to appeal to current players. If they want to bring back lapsed players, Bioware is going to have introduce some game-changing mechanics.

Will you be buying? And if so, are you a new or returning or current player?

Current player since day 1, addicted to this game. For 10 bucks, I’ll pre-order without any second thoughts.
On my way to do just that now.

“Will you be buying? ”

Hell no. Staying as far away from that dumpster fire as I can. Until they figure out WHAT they want to be, and how they want to do it, I don’t have a ton of interest in either playing a gutted game, or paying $15 a month for KOTOR3.

Hmm? This game is still around? I haven’t noticed since I’m too busy fighting for freedom in Planetside 2. Glory to the NC!

Won’t return. That they are doing this in digital only I think says a lot more about its chances for success.

Couldn’t they come up with a more creative name than “Rise of the Hutt Cartel”?
