SWTOR Lead Designer Erickson ‘Actively Looking for New Opportunities’

It appears that Star Wars: The Old Republic Creative Director and Lead Designer Daniel Erickson is pursuing new employment.

According to Erickson’s LinkedIn profile, he is “actively looking for new opportunities,” despite no new information from either BioWare or Electronic Arts that Erickson might be leaving. We’ve reached out to BioWare for further information.

As of this writing, Erickson’s profile still includes the blurb about seeking new opportunities. Of course, just because it appears on an Internet social network doesn’t mean Erickson is actually leaving BioWare after his seven-year tenure there — it’s possible that someone other than Erickson even added that to his profile (I’m not saying hacking or something is likely, just that it’s possible).

Still, if it’s true, one wonders what this means for SWTOR in the future. Already the game has had something of a troubled history, and with the push to free-to-play, BioWare’s MMO is going through a serious state of flux. Losing its lead designer could have a pretty big impact on the game going forward.

Fire James Ohlen and this guy. That would be the greatest achievement of EA.

They are in a paradox. On the one hand, losing your lead dev is a sign of collapse.

On the other, Erickson was so incompetent, if this game is going to survive, he needs to go.
