SWTOR Patch 1.7 Return of the Gree Announced
Bioware’s recently free-to-play MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic keeps rolling along with the free content updates. Today’s announcement touched on the next one, Patch 1.7, and includes two major features for players at the level cap: a recurring Event, the Relics of the Gree, and a new reputation system.
In Relics of the Gree, players must travel to the Western Ice Shelf of the frozen planet Ilum to discover the mystery behind the Gray Secant, an ancient Gree vessel. Given that the Gree are an old race with technology that rivals modern inventions, the weapon and armor rewards promise to be interesting. Though this is a limited time Event, it will be available several times during the year.
Nothing else is known about this Event. The language of the announcement implies that you’ll need a group to tackle the content. The most important piece of information we’re waiting for is the level of the item rewards. That will tell us if this content is worth the time to assemble a group to tackle . Best guess, it will be slightly better than current group content given the limited time to participate, but not as good as raid drops. Free-to-play memebrs will have access to the content, though they are still restricted from equipping Event reward equipment without purchasing an authorization via the Cartel Market.
The Galactic Reputation system is reminiscent of rep systems in many other popular MMOs: carry out missions for specific factions to gain reputation that will unlock exclusive items. There are six levels of reputation: Outsider, Newcomer, Friend, Hero, Champion, and Legend. Earned reputation applies to all characters in your Legacy, cutting down on the dreaded alt rep grind.
We can glean some information based on the one screenshot made available at the time. The factions listed so far are the Gree Enclave, the Voss, the Imperial First Mobile Fleet, and the Imperial Guard on Belsavis. Faction rewards will include unique titles. There is a weekly cap in how much reputation you can earn though it’s unclear if that’s per faction or across all factions. Finally, it appears that faction gain buffs will be available, probably via the Cartel Market. We are still waiting to know how long it will take to max rep in each faction and what all of the rewards are to determine how it stacks up against other max level activities in the game.
Both these content features appear aimed at max level players to give them something to chew on while they wait for the digital expansion Rise of the Hutt Cartel coming this spring.
Check out the screens and let us know what you think!
