SWTOR Servers Shut Down For Emergency Maintenance

UPDATE: They’re giving away a free day of service to make up for the outage.

Attention users of the force: The implementation of yesterday’s Star Wars: The Old Republic Patch 1.2 appears to have encountered the dark side, as technical problems have forced BioWare to take all SWTOR servers offline to deal with the problem. BioWare explained the situation on the official blog thusly:

During last night’s maintenance, some areas of the game were reverted to pre-Game Update 1.2 status. Some areas were ‘missing’ and characters that were in those areas would be unavailable. We took the live servers offline at approx 9:30AM CDT (Austin time).

Our server and deployment teams are now working to rebuild assets for the live servers, but this is unfortunately not a quick process. We currently estimate that our downtime could be up to eight hours, but that time may be extended.

According to an update on their official Twitter feed, currently they’re predicting things will be back up by 5 PM Pacific time later today. We trust Game Front’s SWTOR players, or our readers, will let us know if that happens.
