This is just another signal that Blu-Ray is going to beat out HD-DVD in the long run. Many people were excited in the HD-DVD camp, considering HD is starting to put out movies at a higher rate than Blu-Ray but we also have to consider the fact that HD is putting out a high number o old stock movies that really aren’t all that interesting.
It’s still too early to decide which format will win, but all roads seem to lead to Blu-Ray at this point.
Everyone’s favorite wasteful format war took another strange twist today, with the AP reporting that Target will only stock Blu-ray players in its retail stores — specifically, Sony’s $499 BDP-S300. The decision, which Target and Sony are due to announce tomorrow, doesn’t include Target’s website, Xbox 360 HD DVD drive, or HD DVD movies, so it’s not a particularly huge win for Blu-ray, with even Target saying things like “We are not proclaiming one format vs. the other as the preferred consumer technology.” Still, coupled with Blockbuster’s decision to only stock Blu-ray discs, it looks like the format war might be fought and won at the retailer level, not by consumers.

Hmmmmmm…. I wonder if Sony is doing something behind the scenes with these people to make sure Blu-Ray doesn’t become the next Beta… Turn 2, and this time Sony doesn’t want to lose to the outlaw. Monopoly, with overly high prices for years to come? Possible. Watch out.
