At first, I assumed this was another fabricated internet story, but apparently it really did happen. There was a quick mention of it on the television earlier. I guess now it’s time to rally together some anti-gamers and get the message out there that video games cause lightning. Maybe we could get JT on board for this one, but not really sure who we could sue. Anyway, the basic rundown is that an 18 year old gamer in Brazil was struck by lightning while he had one controller in his mouth and another in his hand playing Mortal Kombat. If there is any lesson to be learned here, it’s that you should not have a controller in your mouth next to an open window when lightning is striking outside. Although it would be a cool story to share with friends, we at Gaming Today do not endorse gaming with controllers in your mouth during storms.
Following last week’s RPG kidnapping, a 18-year-old brazilian near Sao Paulo has been hospitalized after being struck by lightning while he had one joystick in his hand and another in his mouth. I know, weird. The proof that Mother Nature can be a bitch sometimes was left in the teen’s bedroom wall, as you can see here.
It’s not the kind of crack your average teenage boy dreams about in his bedroom, is it? Aguinaldo was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be out today as his injuries are not thought to be too serious. Up until yesterday’s incident, it was thought that lightning preferred iPods to other gadgets.

Okay this could very well be a dumb question since I haven’t played MK in a long time but um…why did he have a controller in his mouth in the first place?

Playing videogames can be compared to reading books, except games require far more sophisticated intelligence level.

Miriella, that has to be one of the funniest comments I’ve heard in a rather long time. To you, many thanks!
I love how both articles don’t really take this seriously. I guess it’s in part to him not dying, but imagine the press then?
“Games the cause of child’s death” as quoted by Mother Nature.
Seriously though, a controller in his mouth? I know the prospect of playing 2 players by yourself can sound appealing, but seriously…why bother.

Joelton, had he been hurt seriously, I definitely would not have found this funny at all.

@William – well yeah – and the entire article would not have been written the way it was to start.
And still no one has yet answered my question
