TGS 2012: New Playstation 3 Gets Price, Release Date

A new version of the relatively ancient Playstation 3 hardware will be hitting shelves later this month, more than likely part of Sony’s price rollback as it gets ready to launch its next console.

Sony revealed the new hardware at the Tokyo Game Show 2012 this week in Japan. As you can see from the image above, it’s anywhere from 20 to 25 percent smaller than the standard Playstation 3. It’ll also pack a bigger hard drive, coming in 250-gigabyte and 500-gigabyte models.

Sony is shipping the 250 GB PS3 Super Slim bundled with Uncharted 3: Game of the Year Edition, plus a $30 download voucher for content for Dust 514. It’ll cost you $269.99 and is available on Sept. 25. The spiffy edition of Uncharted 3 also packs a ton of extra mulitplayer downloadable content that you’d otherwise have to buy, which Sony says comes to about $45 in value. Uncharted 3: GOTY also comes out on Sept. 25, for a standalone price of $39.99.

If you want the bigger new Playstation and you can wait a little longer, the 500 GB version goes on Sale Oct. 30, along with Assassin’s Creed III. They’ll come together in a bundle that will run you $299 and include four exclusive extra levels for the game.
