That’s a Bikram Yoga Stretch: No More Dead Space 2 DLC After Severed?

I usually like to be the guy who gets up on his soapbox to bitch about the internet rumormongers in our industry who like to spread totally unsubstantiated info, and so I find myself having some trouble figuring out how to become one of those rumormongers. I’ve got right here a new, probably-totally-insubstantial bit of speculation based on the immediate gut reaction of one of my GF bros to a probably-innocuous sentence on the Dead Space 2 Facebook page that I oh so desperately want to share with my gamer brethren, because every thought that pops into our heads is totally way important and could absolutely mean something and absolutely MUST be heard by the world at large, damn it, but I’m not sure how to turn this into a legitimate-sounding story.

It might be that I’m struggling with this not because I don’t know how to do it, but rather because I feel some moral or ethical obligation to not be a rumormonger. There really is nothing at all to this story, and it absolutely should not by any journalistic standard be reported as news, because as is the case with most people, the folks who run DS2′s Facebook may not have thought about exactly how people would interpret their words and would never have expected someone to look at it the way we did. But we’ve got to run it, right, because what if we’re right, man? Right?

But enough philosophizing. It’s time to finally share our speculation with the world.

The following was posted on the official Dead Space Facebook page at around 3pm ET today:

The Dead Space 2 site has completed our final update with info Dead Space 2 Severed, new wallpapers, and shots of the new avatar items and DLC packs! Hit the link below and enjoy! Who’s picking up Severed on 3/1?

Our speculation is thus: if this was the final update to the Dead Space 2 site, does that mean there won’t be anything new added later? If that is the case, wouldn’t that mean that we won’t be getting any more single-player chapters after Severed? There’s no possible way that sentence just means it’s the last time they’ll be adding new Severed content to the website, right?

We asked EA, and they said: “We have no new news about Dead Space 2 at this time.”

Yeah.

NOOOOO!!! That was like the worst thing i’ve read that i can remember since the quake in Japan. But seriously, i completed DS1 & 2 one after the other within 4 days within 24hours non-stop. I got seriously addicted and i think that without any DLC, we’re going to have to wait another 2 years for Dead Space 3 in 2013. I am seriously disappointed, as it certainly seems that there won’t be anything new after Severed DLC. The way DS2 ended, we still have 12 planets (i think there are a total of 13 Marker test planets, that’s what the guy said in the final movie scenes) so one got destroyed in DS2. So, that means plenty of action to be expected for DS3 and yeah, we can definitely expect a DS3, as the story is far from over, plus DS is a worldwide amazing success, although not on the Wii, where Extraction flopped, apparently. Great thing they included an HD copy on the DS2 PS3 edition.

Stick to fact, jack; rumourmongering is not for you.

“The Dead Space 2 site has completed our final update with info Dead Space 2 Severed, new wallpapers, and shots of the new avatar items and DLC packs! Hit the link below and enjoy! Who’s picking up Severed on 3/1?”

Simply means that they have completed thier final update regarding Severed. It should have read, “The Dead Space 2 site has completed our final update with info ‘Dead Space 2 : Severed’.”

No wonder people are always geared for flame wars on the .net, we’re so used to and preoccupied with, our own air time, that no one can read anymore. Reading is like hearing, only ‘listening’ with out eyes.
