The Binding of Isaac Has Sold 700,000

It’s always great when a truly wonderful little game that lacks the benefit of major industry backing manages to eke out some rather wonderful success despite the odds against it. Such is the case with The Binding of Isaac, which just passed the 700,000 units sold mark this week.

Developer Edmund McMillen broke the happy news in an email sent yesterday. “Who would have thought a game about an abused child fighting off his mother with his tears could ever sell 700k copies in less than a year?” he asked. “Not me, that’s for f*cking sure.” Duly noted. What’s cool is that the game has sold this well despite only being on PC. But possibly not for long. McMillen added “700k is a big number… maybe its time to bring this thing to console ;) ”. We’ll see.

Incidentally, we loved The Binding of Isaac, so this news makes us quite happy. If you haven’t yet played, now would be a great time to check it out.
