Someone out there has found a use for the Blu-Ray laser in the PS3, besides, you know, playing awesome movies and games. “Kipkay” here purchased a PS3 laser assembly and a Star Trek phaser for his plans. Then he performed a mating dance between the two devices that involved some wires and soldering and shortly thereafter the Blu-Ray phaser was born. This is the greatest piece of laser technology since I scotch taped a laser pointer to my dart gun when I was ten. I’m still holding out for a phaser that actually disintegrates things though or at least keeps my coffee warm.
