The Dead Linger Early Access Next Week

We’ve had an eye on Kickstarted indie zombie survival sim The Dead Linger since it first went into alpha a year ago, mainly because developer Sandswept Studios says we’ll be able to interact with absolutely everything in its massive open, procedurally generated world. Starting next week, we’ll find out just how many everyday items can become undead killing tools when The Dead Linger hits Steam early access.

Posting on The Dead Linger blog, Sandswept announced Steam early access will begin on September 27. You can get in the beta for $20, or if you were a contributor during the Kickstarter campaign, Sandswept says you’ll be receiving an email with your download code soon. The devs also used the early access announcement to make a convincing pitch for their project:

The Dead Linger is the definitive zombie apocalypse survival simulation, in every sense of the word. It has multiplayer, free-form barricading, and, eventually, just about everything you’ve dreamed of in apocalyptic simulation, with a MAJOR focus on classic Romero-style zombies as the core enemy.

Sounds like a combination of DayZ and State of Decay, only in a procedurally generated world. An ambitious project, no doubt. We’ll see how it’s all coming together next week. For now, here’s a trailer:

Except both Day Z and State of Decay lack almost all of the features that TDL will be implementing from build 011 on.

Not to mention actually threatening zombies.
