The Escapist, an excellent online magazine covering gaming and gamer culture explores the myths and reality of game design. Many gamers have dreamed about what it would be like to create their own video games. Some are just frustrated with the sense of “surely I could do better than that.” Is a career in game design really as attractive as it seems? Explore the working world of game design through the eyes of those who have experienced it personally in this week’s The Escapist issue 113: “Career Day.”

Ryan Shwayder gives us the inside scoop in the working world with “How to Become a Game Designer.” Shannon Drake compares the hardcore designer to hardcore refugee in “A Casual Environment.” Eric Zimmerman shares the story of a true gamer and successful designer in “Gamelab’s Hustler.” And Spanner gives insight into the underrated aspect of games with “Scriptoria.”
