The Final Borderlands 2 DLC is Out Today
The final bit of downloadable content, Headhunter 5: Sir Hammerlock versus the Son of Crawmerax, is available today on PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 to the tune of $2.99. Here’s the rundown from the 2K Games press release:
“Join Sir Hammerlock along with Brick, Mordecai, and Lilith for a relaxing vacation on Wam Bam Island as you play the biggest Headhunter add-on in the series. At the end of your adventure, you will battle a foe that may look familiar – Crawmerax Jr., the son of the great crab worm from The Secret Armory of General Knoxx add-on from the original Borderlands.”
As mentioned, however, most notable about this last bit of DLC is probably the fact that Gearbox seems to be officially moving forward from Borderlands 2, a game that was released on Sept. 20, 2012, more than 18 months ago. Anyone who pays attention to game releases and DLC knows that’s a pretty long tail for a game; it’s rare that DLC lasts more than a year for a single title, and suggests Borderlands 2 was an even bigger deal than we might have originally conceived.
Gearbox now is working with 2K Australia on Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which we caught at PAX East 2014 last weekend and will have more to tell you about this week. Gearbox has also hinted at work on a new, unannounced next-gen game. If Borderlands 2 was able to keep players interested (and purchasing DLC) a year and a half after it first hit digital download portals and store shelves, I think it’s probably pretty obvious what that other game is that Gearbox is working on.
I’m speaking, of course, about Aliens: Colonial Marines 2.
