The Guinness Book of World Records Gamer’s Edition will hit shelves on February 8, 2008. I’m not sure about the rest of you, but I’m highly excited about picking this up. I’m hoping that this somehow sparks some of the gaming excitement of old. I’m talking about the times when we kept Polaroid cameras handy just in case we broke a new record on Pac-Man or River Raid on the old Atari systems. Believe it or not, River Raid is still a complete obsession of mine. I play it on my still functional Atari 2600 at least once a week. At one time, gaming was all about bragging rights and that seemed to completely die with the arcades.
It’s too late to break any records for this year’s edition, but fortunately Guinness plans to continue with a gamer’s edition of the book every year around February. I haven’t had the opportunity to look into the new publication and am curious to find out how console game records are verified.
