The last Halo 2 player finally signs off
“The Final Few,” a.k.a. “The Noble 12,” a.k.a. “the last group of diehards still playing Halo 2 online,” are at last no more. The final Halo 2 player Apache N4SIR was forcefully booted from game‘s server early this morning. Read on for a summary of this noble tale.
If things had gone according to Microsoft’s initial plan, Halo 2 would have ceased to exist online on April 15, 2010. But a group of diehards had a different idea. They banded together and stayed online in a single match, creating a dedicated forum thread on bungie.net to chronicle their last stand. Their Xboxes started overheating, their connections died, but they pressed on like bad-asses. This went on for 25 days, while Microsoft tried to politely lure them offline with Halo Reach beta codes. Ha! We spat at your beta codes, they said (in my mind).
Finally, Apache N4SIR posted this today on the bungie.net forum:
“APACHE N4SIR – FORCEFULLY REMOVED FROM HALO 2 SERVERS!!
I got kicked at 0158hrs Tuesday May 11th est.
I will be turning the lights out, but will play a few games on REACH to show BUNGIE I’M NOT DONE YET!!! My crew is no longer online… anyone want to play with me? ahh its okay, im sure someone will recognize the name. lol”
It was an epic run fellas, and a truly cool way to send off an online experience that gave so many so much joy over the years. Good work.
