The Last of Us Movie Finds Distributor

Screen Gems will distribute The Last of Us film adaptation.

The news was revealed today along with reports that the movie itself will be filmed by Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Productions. According to Screen Gem president Clint Culpepper, the game has great potential for a big screen adaptation.

“When I saw the quality of the storytelling, I knew the audience for this project was far greater than just the gaming community and that Neil Druckmann must write the screenplay,” he said in a statement. “I am thrilled that SCEA’s Riley Russell was able to get me in front of Neil and Evan Wells to plead my case. Sam and his team at Ghost House round out the perfect team to help realize Neil’s vision.”

In addition to staff from Screen Gems and Ghost House the adaptation’s creative team will include members of the game’s development team. Among these will be Naughy Dog co-presidents Evan Wells and Christopher Balestra, director Bruce Straley and creative director Neil Druckman who will pen the script. According to Wells, the Screen Gems/Ghost House partnership is “a perfect fit.”

Let’s hope it doesn’t suck as much as most videogame film adaptations.
