The Long Dark Hits Kickstarter Goal, Set for Fall 2014 Release

Hinterland Studio’s The Long Dark successfully completed its Kickstarter campaign earlier today, and the wintery, post-apocalyptic survival game is on track for a Fall 2014 release.

With an original goal of CAD $200,000, The Long Dark managed to pull down $256,217 in total. The extra $56,000-plus also check off two of the project’s stretch goals, including an “exclusive downloadable graphic novel” for all contribution tiers, and a soundtrack that will be twice as long as originally planned.

Kickstarter is relatively new to Canada, and The Long Dark is one of Canuckistan’s most successful video game Kickstarter campaigns to date. Along with netting over $250,000, The Long Dark has secured some high-profile voice talent in recent weeks, including Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect, Call of Duty: Black Ops II), and the intrepid David Hayter (Metal Gear Solid, Star Wars: The Old Republic).

The Long Dark is the debut game for Hinterland Studio, but the studio is chock full of veteran talent. Hinterland Founder and Creative Director Raphael van Lierop has worked on the Warhammer 40k and Far Cry franchises in the past, and Technical Director Alan Lawrance worked at Volition for 17 years before joining Hinterland, to name a few.
