The Long Dark Hits Kickstarter Goal

It’s official: The Long Dark will be a game.

Well, if recent crowdfunding history is any indication, I should probably revise that statement.

The Long Dark, the promising episodic disaster survival sim from the roster of industry veterans at start-up studio Hinterland, hit its $200,0000 Kickstarter goal with three days left. That means Hinterland has the money it says it needs to design and ship the first episode of The Long Dark for PC and with Oculus Rift virtual reality support in October 2014.

Only time will tell whether or not Hinterland can actually complete its game as described and with the budget provided. The fate of big name Kickstarter projects like Double Fine Adventure, aka Broken Age, and CLANG suggest Hinterland has their work cut out for them.

Here’s to hoping they deliver, because The Long Dark looks like something I want to play. See some early gameplay below:

There are still 48 hours (as of this posting) left. If you want to help Hinterland hit some stretch goals, head on over to The Long Dark Kickstarter page.
