The MMO Hall Of Fame Announces Inaugural Inductees

Video games are slowly and surely becoming accepted as legitimate entertainment media, but there’s still a long way to go before the accomplishments of the industry’s innovators and creative personnel are considered as culturally noteworthy as their counterparts in film, music, television and literature. The VGAs are rightly considered a joke, and there simply isn’t a body comparable to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for video games. But in much the same way the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame succeeded in imparting a kind of prestige to the form, a group of gaming industry veterans have set out to do the same for at least one gaming genre, starting now.

The MMO Hall of Fame has officially launched with an announcement of their first ever inductees. The Hall of Fame voting committee is made up of industry professionals ranging from writers, producers, directors, even CEOs and VPs, all of whom presumably have different definitions of what constitutes excellence. Qualifying potential honorees must receive at least 60% of the vote in order to become inducted. The 2012 inductees are:

* Ultima Online (100% of the votes)
* World of Warcraft (80% of the votes)
* EverQuest (70% of the votes)
* Lineage (60% of the votes)
* EVE Online (60% of the votes)
