The PS3 Gets Some College Sports Apps

It’s only been about 30 hours since we saw an all-Southeastern Conference national championship game, but the SEC isn’t content with just owning the college football world; they also want your game console.

Sony today announced that the PS3 is getting this week a pair of SEC-oriented apps: XOS Sports and the SEC Digital Network. Both these apps will offer all sorts of on-demand content from the SEC, including full game replays. And not just recent game replays; they’ve got some old goodies in there too. Unfortunately, neither of these will give you live games, and so it won’t satisfy the way ESPN on Xbox Live satisfies, but it’s still pretty cool.

The PS3 now has the NHL, MLB and SEC stuff. Xbox 360 has ESPN. Do we even need cable anymore?
