The Rift Database Has Been Hacked

If you play Rift, be warned: The Rift database has been hacked. Trion Worlds confirmed that unfortunate fact earlier today in a statement posted to their official site. Though they insist that there is “no reason to believe, that full credit card information was accessed or compromised in any way”, they acknowledge that hacked data may include user names and passwords, billing addresses, DOB and email address, and most importantly, the first and last four digits of stored credit card information. Yikes!

“We have already taken further action to strengthen our systems,” the statement continues, “even as we, with external security experts, continue to research the extent of the unauthorized access.” Needless to say, if you’re a Rift player, now would be the time to start changing your passwords and other information, and to keep a close eye on your financial records to make sure you haven’t been compromised.
