The Secret World Gives Contest Awards to All
Titles and pets are super-important for the MMO completionist. I’m one of those completionists, so a contest like one The Secret World put on where players compete to earn a limited number of pets and titles would have driven me crazy. Thankfully, Funcom decided – after bringing the servers back online, to give the ultra-exclusive contest rewards to all players who participated in the contest instead of just the winners. Happy New Year!
What prompted this sudden generosity? Cheaters, mostly. Players found a way to exploit the system to get far more points than they should have been able to get. Instead of trying to continue the contest and sort out cheaters and exploiters from other players, Funcom just gave everybody the contest rewards instead. It’s refreshing to see a company take something as annoying as cheaters ruining the game and turn it into a way to give something to the community. A few developers have done similar things (the Cheater’s Lament in TF2 being the best example that springs to mind), but it never gets old.
