The TV Show, "Life" + "Prince of Persia" = Painful Viewing

Want to feel insulted a little nauseous? Then just watch the clip above. Apparently, a recent episode of the NBC crime drama, Life, had a plot involving some drug dealers who stored records of their transactions on their Xbox. Just let that sink in for a moment: they’re smart enough to reprogram a video game, but not smart enough to realize that keeping a detailed paper trail of drug deals might not be a good idea. Add in some ridiculous bits about how they have to reach “Level 10″ to access them, a whole room of cops gathering around to watch, and some random twitching of fingers and you’ve got a sequence that’s embarrassing for all involved, especially the viewers. This is the only part of this show I’ve ever seen, but in less than three minutes, it ensured that I’ll be steering clear of this one. It’s sad too, cause Damian Lewis was awesome in Band of Brothers.

I like the show, and this episode made me go “WTF???”. At least they didn’t bash video games, just used them as a method of hiding data.

 OH GOOOOD. /facepalm that was so painful to watch.

This smells like a plug so the clueless writers had to come up with something. I just hope that’s the case.

And they did bash video games. Well video gamers. Love how they have the guy who brags he lives with his parents and has a cpt kirk costume play the game.

Ahahaha.

They didn’t really bash them, come on.

It seems gamers are trying to pick a fight with any shows with games in them at all.

They could have chosen a game that would be a little bit more bloody and violent, like Halo. I think they should’ve done Mario or something. That way it would be hilarious to see the guy lose.

The super intense music in the background made in awe-inspiringly awful. Is this what happens when the writers strike? Or is this just a reason not to ever hire the writers back on?

:?: Wow… This just goes to show how ignorant the media is. My favorite part of the whole thing was that when the girl played, the one button she hit the entire time was A, over and over again. Also as if dying wasn’t enough to signify a FAIL they had to add cheesy editing and make it say “You have died”. Winners indeed.

Yeah I saw that episode of Life. I enjoy the show and I think Damian Lewis is great and his partner is hottie. Anyhoo, I saw the bit with Prince of Persia and although I’ve never really played it on console (just the old PC version), that just smacked of something cheesy. I’m guessing one of the writers kids must played that game a lot a few years ago. Same writers kid probably also told their parents that you can store music and download content on there. So the writer just kinda jumped ahead creatively and added the whole bit with the extensive Excel chart showing how they sold drugs. I thought it was goofy, but I still really enjoy that show.

Actually Life is a fantastic show. If you like Damien Lewis, you’ll love his work in this.

And this was a good episode……..except for this part.

What gets me is that Prince of Persia : The Two Thrones has like 3 or 4 difficulty levels so the replayability level isnt too high. You’ll beat the game twice (maybe) and then you’re done (I remember beating it in less than 10 hours). I can understand if the guy was playing an online game or some game that has a huge level of replayability and the girl was following with an invisible controller because she has played this game religiously before, but that’s not the case. There’s no way she has played this game SO much that she would follow with the guy on her invisible controller.

This isnt DDR or Guitar Hero or any game that requires you to do buttons at a certain predicted time.

Yeah..way too long rant for something so stupid but it still got to me. Im sorry

Wow! I must have got an incomplete copy of that game. I certainly never got to level 10 :( Maybe I need the newest patch.

And seriously, if that wasn’t an ad for Ubisoft, I don’t know what is.

Ordinarily, the show is quite entertaining, and Damian Lewis is fantastic. I have to agree, though, that sequence was painfully dull.

I was more distracted in the fact that they obviously didn’t use this as product placement. I mean, seriously, a Xbox? The guy was a drug dealer. He’s got the cash, so why doesn’t he have a 360 or PS3. Plus, they shilled out for an old game. That’s another bag of cash they didn’t get. Maybe I’m just used to being inundated with product placements of the newest products out there that this threw me for a loop.

I think the main reason it was on the XBox was because Prince of Persia is on the XBox. I’m pretty sure PoP was picked because of the whole underlying theme having to do with the victims being Persians not Iraqi.

I have to admit, that whole plot scenario was stretched pretty thin, but it was at least better than some video games in TV shows. Like I think there’s been a few MMO tie-ins with “catching the bad guy” and that’s been horrible.

Life is a good show though. Not everyone can push out 100% win every episode.

Yeah, I like “Life” too, but the sequence had me complaining to my wife. How completely difficult it is to store data on “Level 10″, instead of just using some software on a computer. And for them to stand around and wait for the gamer to reach Level 10? Them L.A. Cops must be overpaid. And the phantom fingers got me the most. Must. Mime. Controller. Controls…

I want to know why and how this get’s on television. At some point, someone somewhere has to say “Guys… this sucks.”

I must say that although this was a very cheezy way to have this part of the episode I can see that you guys and girls in this forum have a soft spot being the gamers that you are.

The program is actually fun to watch and funny too. It’s also suspenseful enough to keep you wondering who framed him.

C’mon guys don’t judge the whole show because of one bad clip about people who play games, be real.
