Available to the public?.. I don't see a weaponized, or even throughly useful thing like that ever being publicly available. Even in the Star wars movies, books they never were. Actually there have been alot of companies that have funded research into ‘similar’ ideas. Usually not for combat, but a beam of energy. Available to the public?.. Whenever I face a real decision in life, I try to do what a Jedi would. One fantasy of mine is not a Wii lighsaber or toy lightsaber. I want them to one day create a real one. I know it's stupid I suppose, but that would be the coolest possible event on earth.. the day they invent a real lightsaber and make it available to the public.
