The Witcher 3 Expands Geralt’s Combat Options

Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of the Witcher series of games, is a master swordsman and possesses much in the way of martial artistry. He’ll be getting a major boost to his ensemble of fighting moves in the upcoming game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game’s developers have revealed.

Speaking to OnlySP, series producer Marek Ziemak revealed plans to expand Geralt’s combat options, with new offensive and defensive moves, as well as items and potions to aid in combat.

“You have new ways to dodge enemies and parry their blows,” he said. “But also, for each magical sign, you can use two versions of it. One is extended. For example, the Igni sign has a constant flamethrower thing whereas there’s also single, more destructive blow of fire. This is one of the new elements. We’re also introducing new alchemical potions, and other minor elements that will change the experience.”

Regardless of the game’s expanded combat options, its primary focus remains on its story. The Witcher 3 will launch for the PC and next-gen platforms in 2014.

I wish I could get excited for the Witcher 3. Sadly, when I see Geralt I just see generic antihero #378 and when playing the game I rapidly realize that I don’t care what happens to any of these characters because it seems like there aren’t any who aren’t bastards.

The reason this bugs me is because I actually like some things about the series, like the difficulty and the combat from Witcher 2, and I love the way CD Projekt Red doesn’t treat its customers like the enemy.

A way to heal in battle, a spell would be awesome, other than that, it sounds great!
