Players who’ve completed The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be able to continue where they left off in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by importing their save file, CD Projekt has confirmed.

According to CD Projekt executive producer John Mamais, these save files will “definitely impact your playthrough in The Witcher 3.”

When starting a new game, players will be able to choose to import their save file or start the game from a default state. The option is only available to PC gamers.

“We’re not sure how it’s going to work on the consoles yet, but we might try to create some kind of game state even if you haven’t played,” Mamais added.

“Obviously we didn’t make the game for the Playstation 3, so we might try to deliver something for the PS4 that could create some kind of profile for those players.”

The Witcher 3 is slated to be a DRM-free, 100% single-player experience. It is bound for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014.
